Research In Motion (RIM) announced the BlackBerry Widget Software Development Kit (SDK) for the BlackBerry OS 5.0 platform. With the new BlackBerry this Widget SDK, developers can create web based applications for BlackBerry smartphone with full features and functionality previously only available for BlackBerry applications written in Java programming language.
Widget BlackBerry using the BlackBerry's browser engine to render the application using the user interfaceHTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The developer can use Web content that already exists to create widgets and extending the BlackBerry capabilities of their Web applications using the BlackBerry Widget API.
Using BlackBerry's new widget API, developers can, for example, makes the interaction between a widget and BlackBerry email and calendar applications, produces widgets with the ability to view and edit files and documents stored in the smartphone, to access location-based services or media player , and many more.
The developers also can use RIM's push technology with a unique optimum, allowing a dynamic widget that can be running in the background and provides proactive alerts to the user at the appointed time.

BlackBerry widget can easily be distributed over-the-air, through the BlackBerry App World (www.blackberry.com / appworld) or through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for corporate environment. Widget support for BlackBerry will be available on BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry OS 5.0, which will include advanced BlackBerry browser with support for Gears, SQLite and the new BlackBerry Widget API.
